A new international standard for Facility Management has been formally approved to proceed into development by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO). ISO 41000 will be a ‘Management System Standard’ for Facility Management.
The development of standards in Facility Management dates back to 2004, when an initiative was launched within Europe to gather together those who wanted to develop Facility Management as a professional discipline and improve the recognition of Facility Managers. In order to get that, the development of standards against such recognition could leverage was seen as a priority.
Stan Mitchell, Chairman of ISO TC 267 Facilities Management Committee, will be part in the International Congress for Facility Managers, CIFMers, which will take place in Septemeber 2015 in Madrid, to present this subject in detail. Also, a workshop will be held at the congress, where all attendees will be able to debate about this standard development process.
