EELISA stands for European Engineering Learning Innovation and Science Alliance. It is the first alliance of higher education institutions formed by different European states, which seeks to define and implement a common model of engineering, rooted in the needs of society. It falls within the framework of the European Universities programme and is financed by Erasmus+. The name EELisa is also a tribute to women engineers in memory of Romanian Elisa Leonida Zambirescu (1887-1973), who was one of the first women in the world to obtain a degree in engineering.
EELISA aims to transform European higher education, while strengthening the links between engineering and society, reinventing the concept of the “European engineer” and democratising engineering education. Thus, interdisciplinary engineering learning will be promoted and enhanced, and the transfer of knowledge, skills and technology fostered, while simultaneously encouraging inclusiveness and diversity. Ultimately, the aim is to produce a genuine impact on society in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the SDGs.
BCC Community
EELISA initiatives are articulated through communities. Its members share a common interest and offer or participate in learning, research and innovation practices. EELISA communities are available to all kinds of participants, from academics, students, university members, or EELISA university ecosystem collaborators. Activities encompass over 30 wide-ranging disciplines, such as decarbonisation, sustainable food production, materials, textiles, circular manufacturing systems, among others. The disparity has to do with the different types of degrees and engineering specialisations.
For some months now, FMHOUSE has been part of one such community, namely, Sustainable Building, Cities and Communities, or Sustainable BCC. As participants, we aim to contribute through our experience as consultants in real estate operation models, as well as our relations with people and the environment. In the words of David Martinez, CEO of FMHOUSE, “the project fuses our three lines of business: consulting, training and research. It is also an ideal setting to offer an insight into what Facility Management is all about, so when we received the invitation to participate, we accepted without hesitation.”
The first Sustainable BCC community project we are leading is the Facility Management Think Tank, within the renovation plan of a European institution building, in which the NEB (New European Bauhaus) principles are to be applied. As the project progresses, we will publish updates and extend invitations to the events that will take place as part of the Community activities.
